Allelys are pleased to celebrate a double milestone for Jeremy McGraham, Manager – Special Order Routing, who this month received his 500th Special Order Permit, coinciding with his five year anniversary since joining the business.
Special Order Permits are issued on behalf of the Secretary of State to authorise the movement of abnormal loads exceeding 150te in weight, 6.1m in width, or a rigid length of over 30m. Each permit generally takes 10 – 12 weeks to conclude, with more complex routes often taking in excess of a year to complete.
Reaching 500 special order permits in exactly five years
Jeremy’s achievement reflects not only his personal dedication to role, but also the growth of Allelys and the increasing demand for the movement of larger, heavier and more complex cargo across the UK. Averaging nearly two permits a week over five years, this milestone highlights both the knowledge and experience required to navigate the UK’s permit application process, but also the value that Allelys add to each project prior to the operational delivery stage commencing.
“Reaching 500 special order permits in exactly five years really demonstrates the growth within the UK and the increase in weights of the loads that we’re moving. Both of these factors, combined with infrastructure being downgraded in many areas, mean that the role is more challenging today than when I started. I currently have around 65 special orders open at any one time due to the length of the process, which shows just how much work goes on behind the scenes.
That said, I don’t mind the pressure of the role – I actually enjoy it. There’s a real sense of achievement in seeing the cargo moving, knowing I’ve played my part in making it happen. The relationships I’ve built with stakeholders are absolutely key and I take great pride in having full ownership of the process within Allelys.
