Landing Craft project
Allelys has completed the transportation, offloading and positioning of a World War II Landing Craft. Weighing 220te and measuring 57.4m in length, the Landing Craft is the last one in the UK, one of the last in world and was a campaign veteran of the D-Day landings.
Using 24 axle lines of SPMT in a 2 x 4 file configuration, Allelys transported the Landing Craft 100 metres from its restoration location at Portsmouth Naval Base to the barge location. It was then rolled onto the barge, transported to Southsea and rolled off the barge.
Delivery to the National Museum of the Royal Navy
Allelys transported the piece 800 metres to Clarence Esplanade and jacked it down using 8 synchronised climbing jacks. A 200te mobile crane was then utilised to load a Churchill tank and a Sherman tank onto the Landing Craft. The final stage was to skid the piece, using 4 lines of heavy duty skidding equipment, into its final position.
In addition to the transportation and offloading, Allelys were contracted to provide the full scope of engineering and project management including transport studies, stability calculations, load calculations and offloading methodology from the beached barge to land side.
