Heavy Lift Route Study

Allelys support abnormal load transport projects by offering heavy lift route study services to identify a suitable route for the cargo.

Heavy lift route study

Whether the requirement forms part of an Allelys project or is contracted on a consultancy basis, we’re able to support the abnormal load industry by providing heavy lift route study services. We’re recognised within the UK as having one of the most diverse fleets of specialist trailers, that create an unrivalled amount of trailer configurations. The knowledge and experience this has built within the team means we’re also perfectly positioned to assist projects during the planning stage.

Engineering a suitable route for abnormal indivisible load (AIL) transport is critical to the success of the project. Regular changes to civil infrastructure across the UK creates an ever changing environment for heavy lift cargoes. From road layouts changing, roadworks, additional street furniture being installed, trees and foliage restricting the route, through to structures being downgraded or the height between the road surface and bridges being reduced due to additional layers of tarmac being laid, demonstrates the need to analyse the potential route, even if it has been used previously.

Route study services

Our engineers use mapping to identify suitable routes for abnormal loads by completing desktop route reports. A driven heavy lift route study is then completed for routes that require further analysis. Photographs and measurements are taken of pinch points along the route, the height of overhead lines are also measured as well as street furniture and foliage that may need removing along the route being identified. All details and measurements are then analysed by our engineering team to determine whether the heavy transport can pass through successfully. The temporary removal of street furniture or cutting of foliage is also managed by our team.

For specific junctions or crossroads along the route that require further investigation, we’re also experienced in completing swept path analysis to simulate the heavy lift equipment travelling through.
