Successfully delivered a turnkey solution

Allelys complete 6.60m high strand jack gantry lift at Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant.

Allelys has successfully delivered a turnkey solution for the transport and installation of critical equipment at the Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant. The project scope included the transportation, lifting and installation of a 154te steam turbine and a 132te generator from Ellesmere Port to the plant in Northwich.

Designing an appropriate solution

The transport would have been possible on a shorter configuration, however due to weight restrictions on the approach to site, Allelys utilised an 18 axle modular trailer to deliver both the steam turbine and generator to site on a consecutive movement. Upon arrival, both the turbine and generator were stooled off and temporarily stored until required for installation.

Combining techniques

The generator was then self-loaded onto a 10 axle SPMT for transport across to the installation area, whilst traversing over a condenser pit which Allelys overbridged. It was positioned under the hydraulic strand jack gantry system and lifted to a 6.60m high plinth. The generator was then skidded approximately 20m to its final position.

The same operational process was used to tranship the turbine onto the SPMT, position it under the hydraulic gantry system, lift, skid and install to final position.

Demonstration of engineering capabilities

“This project was a clear demonstration of the engineering capabilities within the Allelys business. Our engineering team developed a bespoke strand jack system design concept, and overbridging design, to ensure the successful delivery and installation of these critical components,” Explained Garnaud Tsika, Commercial Manager at Allelys.

Showcasing agility and flexibility

“We also showcased our agility and flexibility when faced with unexpected ground loading constraints on site. The site ground loadings were lower than what we were going to impose, however we re-engineered the project and by using additional equipment, we were able to adapt and meet the site conditions.”
