“Floozy in the Jacuzzi” Fountain

Allelys have recently removed and transported one of Birmingham’s iconic statues. Affectionately known as the “Floozy in the Jacuzzi” but officially The River and Youth statues are the latest that Allelys have removed as part of the Victoria Square regeneration project.

The fountain elements, the heaviest being the Goddess weighing 2te, were required to be removed to undergo repairs prior to being reinstalled in time for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Full engineering support provided

Due to the design and lack of suitable lifting points of the fountain, Allelys provided full engineering support for the project. Including a lift study, lift plan and lift management as well as project management.

55te mobile crane was utilised to complete the lift and position the fountain onto a step frame trailer for transport. Allelys then transported the cargo 45 miles to their storage facility in Redditch.

Whilst in storage, the statues will go through a conservation cleaning process, whilst the fountain area is waterproofed and revamped. Allelys will then transport the statues back to Victoria Square and reinstall prior to the Commonwealth Games.

Construction work for the fountain began in 1992 and was completed in 1994. However in 2013, a major leak was identified and the fountain has been switched off ever since. The current repairs will see the fountain return to full working order.

This fountain removal is part of a multi-million pound regeneration project within Birmingham city centre. With Allelys having already completed the removal of the Iron:Man statue, which weighed 7te and the Boulton, Watt and Murdoch statue, which weighed 6te.

Heavy lift projects within the museum and heritage sector require more than a heavy lift service. Allelys onsite storage capabilities enable the business to lift and transport the items as well as storing them with the care and protection needed.
