Heavy lift awards

We are thrilled to be shortlisted for the Heavy Lift Awards – overland photo of the year with this stunning shot of our 200te girder frame crossing the Orwell bridge! If you like this photo, please give us a vote.

This photo was taken on a project that saw Allelys transport, offload and install a transformer weighing 184te. The cargo was received at Ipswich Docks onto a 12 axle flat top trailer and shunted to a temporary storage area.

Temporary closure of the Orwell Bridge

The transformer, measuring 8.7m (l) x 5.4m (w) x 4.8m (h), was then transported 59 miles to Burwell, Cambridge using an 18 axle, 200te capacity girder frame. The route, engineered by the Allelys team, included a temporary closure of the Orwell Bridge to enable the transport to cross without any other vehicles on the bridge at the same time.

Zac Smout, Project Manager at Allelys commented

“This project was particularly interesting to work on due to the route involved. It was certainly impressive to see the girder frame travelling solo across the Orwell Bridge.”

The Heavy Lift Awards 2021 are being held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Tuesday 19th October. There are four categories within the photo of the year competition, including overland, air freight, shipping and lifting operation. There is also an award to be presented for the video of the year.

Lifetime Achievement Award
