Allelys take home ESTA award

Last night in Paris, Allelys won the ESTA Award of Excellence for Combined Techniques for the offload and transport of a 155te transformer from Traeth y Graig Ddu (Black Rock Sands beach), to the National Grid substation at Trawsfynydd.

The operation was carefully planned to utilise the natural tide to beach the vessel on to Black Rock Sands beach. This allowed only a tight operational window where the transport team were able to offload the transformer onto our 12 axle flat top trailer to continue its journey through North Wales to the substation.

We’re extremely proud of our team and all the hard work that went into making this possible.

National Grid Substation at Trawsfynydd

In July 2023, Allelys completed a combined technique project that gained the attention of the industry and was reported on within all the major heavy lift and specialist transport publications internationally. This project saw the successful completion of a unique beach landing, transport and installation operation utilising a combination of techniques, including:

  • Sea transportation
  • Road transportation
  • Jacking
  • Skidding

This project took months of engineering, planning and preparation. It required an expert team to take on the challenge, engineer a solution and execute the operation seamlessly. Timings, calculations and measurements were critical.

All of this came together to see Allelys successfully complete the offload, transport and installation of a 155te transformer with a unique combined techniques approach.

The project required a wide range of equipment and innovative planning alongside a combination of techniques to successfully deliver a full-service solution for this cargo, whilst reducing cost and disruption to the surrounding areas. Without the use of all these combined techniques along with engineering an efficient solution, the project would have not been possible.
