Heavy Lift Awards 2024

Allelys are delighted to have been shortlisted for two heavy lift awards. The first for Overland Transport Provider of the Year for our combined overland transport solution for Progress Power, Hirwaun, and Millbrook Power Stations Project. The second for Project of the Year, where we provided a complex transport solution to Rothienorman Substation in collaboration with Rolf Riedl.

We’re looking forward to attending the awards ceremony in London on 23rd October to catch up with all of the other finalists and to hear the winners announced.

Progress Power, Hirwaun, and Millbrook Power Stations Project

Allelys played a vital role within the energy sector and assisted the UK’s growth plans by transporting and installing critical infrastructure ranging from 60kg to 333te from three UK ports to three different power plants across the UK. Working hand in hand with our client to support the commitment to a greener future.

With an overland transport solution requiring significant engineering expertise and a combination of girder frames, flat top trailers, SPMTs, semi low loaders, wafer decks and 40ft trucks. This project showcases Allelys’ ability to unite over 25 external stakeholders, to break existing records and to deliver a safe, efficient and innovative project, which accumulated in a total of over 22,000 road transport miles.

Rothienorman Substation Project

Allelys and Rolf Riedl collaborated and executed the delivery of a 158te transformer, a 352te generator and 91 general cargo (GC) components from across Europe to Rothienorman Substation in Scotland.

Overcoming challenges

This project has been entered due to the wide-ranging challenges and complexities that were overcome to enable this project to be delivered successfully, including:

  • Multi modal transportation.
  • An extension to the road width to accommodate the cargo dimensions.
  • An overbridging operation to support the heavy cargo weight.
  • Restricted space.
  • Steep inclines.
  • Severe weather conditions during execution.
